About the City -
New Chandigarh is a new planned smart city near Mullanpur in the Mohali district (SAS Nagar) in Punjab, India. It is designed as an extension of the already crowded city of Chandigarh. It is developed by Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GAMADA).
New Chandigarh LPA is located in the northeast of GMADA region, south of the Shivalik range. Spread over an area of approximately 15,000 acres. The main settlements are the 32 villages scattered throughout the area, the largest of them being the historic Mullanpur village.
The existing rivers and their surroundings will be enhanced to become prime physical assets of New Chandigarh. These have been conserved and development in these areas includes recreational zones only with minimal construction activity. A 100 m buffer zone has been set aside.

The Project New Chandigarh also introduced the private housing companies apart from the public residential area under GMADA. The Omaxe and DLF are the main private housing societies. Eco City I and Eco City II are the residential townships in New Chandigarh, spread over 806 acres in the foothills of the Sivalik Hills.
Education city of New Chandigarh
Education city of New Chandigarh is spread at 1700 acres and was developed to have campuses of universities and educational institutes. Institute of Technology and Future Trends College is located in Sector 11 of New Chandigarh.
Medicity of New Chandigarh
Medicity of New Chandigarh has a 100 bed Tata Memorial Centre's Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre which is spread over 50 acres. The stem Cell Centre is also under construction.

An independent water treatment plant is being installed for the new Chandigarh with a capacity of 20 MGD.

Why is it important to check the future developments -
Installation of a main sewage treatment plant exclusively for new Chandigarh shall be done to treat sewage water to utilize it for the green area.
There would be an uninterrupted power supply for this township. The development of the new Chandigarh is on a fast track. This area would also be linked with the metro.
Keeping the future requirements in mind, everything has been provided separately for this area. This is a medium-density area so the natural environment shall be preserved.
